Case Study:

The cafeteria began in the 1990s as a protected workshop, due to the need at that time to deinstitutionalize long-stay users.

Later, the sheltered workshop became a pre-employment workshop, beginning to increase its income. In addition, the profile of the users who entered was changing over time, since users with a higher level of functionality were required.

After Senadis’ visit, the operation and the incentive given to users began to be questioned. Due to this, the efforts to start the grouping of users are started. At that time, the cleaning and confectionery workshop is integrated into the cafeteria with a total of 15 users.

After the efforts and arrangement of the infrastructure, the cafeteria officially opens its doors in 2018.

Due to the pandemic, they had to be reinvented, with delivery inside the Institute. Subsequently, it was necessary to re-enchant and re-educate the users to retake the cafeteria.

The challenges were the formalization with the legal personality, the arrangement of the infrastructure, the issuance of tickets and the reintegration of the users after being at least 5 months waiting for the arrangements.

Also, coming back after the pandemic, it was a big challenge, especially because of the instability of the step-by-step plan, which caused them to open and then have to close.

One of the aspects that helped was to be able to understand the apprehensions of users in the face of the instability they encountered. Generating in them only support and confidence for their entrepreneurship. The resilience shown by users and managers helped to get the cafeteria back on its feet.

It is worth mentioning that the process of the cafeteria has been long with several actors involved, who have collaborated in one way or another in the CAFETA today.

What are your plans for the future ?

The challenges in relation to users is greater initiative and increased communication between them.

The challenges of the coffee shop are to change the legal personality (facilitating sales with the purchase network), increase hiring, manufacture of new products, increase sales points (entrepreneurship fairs, sales through social networks).
